Baidu's Dubike Tracks Your Performance and Generates Its Own Energy

These smart bikes can track your performance as you ride as well as offer directions and power themselves. Developed by Baidu, the Dubike is a high tech bicycle that does not have a motor but has many features Chinese cyclists could enjoy next year. A collaborative effort between Tsinghua University's Artistic and Industrial Design departments and Baidu's Institute of Deep Learning (IDL), the Dubike has no shortage of sensors.

From the pedal and heart rate and even seat pressure, the smart bikes send data to your smartphone using Bluetooth and track via an app. The handlebars house technology that can monitor your bike route and give directions. A "self-generation hub that converts kinetic into electrical energy" is what generates the electricity needed to keep these functions going.

IDL hope to launch the product in China by the end of 2015.
