Blaspheming Benevolent Catwalks

The WAD Magazine #Riot Issue Features the ‘Slutwalks'

The March 2012 #Riot issue of France’s WAD Magazine will feature the provocative "Slutwalks" protest, a daring campaign brandishing signs that read "Proud to be a ####" and "B*tch, #####, ####." The references to demeaning sexual innuendos is readily apparent, as well as WAD Magazine’s abhorrence of these harsh female-specific slurs.

The Slutwalks protest project supports the right of women to wear what they please without judgement, and especially without fear of rape and/or verbal abuse. By making these bold and to-the-point statements, the WAD Magazine #Riot spread makes no secret of their message; women should not be beleaguered based on their outfit choices, regardless of their conservative or provocative slant.

The racy fashion pieces displayed in the Slutwalks protest do not take away from the substance of the movement, but rather showcase the crux of the framework’s main contention. By showcasing empowered women who proudly sport evocative ensembles, an excellent case in support of liberal fashion statements has been made.
