The Skyttlebron Railway Bridge Invigorates With Color

Fresh from completing a Copenhagen train station, Swedish studio Metro Arkitekter is back with the Skyttlebron railway bridge, located in Sweden's Lund Central Railway Station.

The pedestrian bridge is accessed by a set of stairs glazed in eye-catching shades of red, orange and yellow. The colors were specifically requested in the architectural brief as a means of contrast to the neutral surroundings. Architect Rafael Palomo explains, "The first idea, and perhaps the strongest in terms of design, is that we wanted to bring color into an environment where virtually everything is in shades of grey, brown or green." Another design decision was installing glass panes along the side of the stairwell, achieving a visually appealing stained-glass effect.

In terms of functionality, the walkway connects the New City Hall with the center of the Lund station on the opposite side of the tracks.
