Matt Molloy’s Sky Photography Shows Beauty Through Haziness

Canada based Matt Molloy’s sky photography uses a smearing technique to produce beautiful photographs.

Molloy uses time-lapse shots to capture the images he uses to layer upon each other and create his majestic skies. Essentially, the photos are exposures overlapped to create a smeared effect. The vivid colors shoot out at you while the smearing creates a sense of whimsy. All of the photographs have a Monet and Van Gogh-esque impressionist feel. The images convey a clear picture, although the smearing technique is what sets the series apart from regular shots of the sky.

The photographs are outstanding and particularly, the sunsets are breath taking. Matt Molloy is experimenting with the medium he loves and establishing smearing techniques as a way to alter and enhance sky photography for a new age of artistry.
