This Skate Bowl was Transformed Into a Watermelon Wedge by Local Skaters

South Australia-based skateboarder and BMX rider Brad Wright transformed a skate bowl at his local park into a watermelon-painted piece of art. The 22 year old decided that the graffiti-covered skate bowl could be altered to better suit the Dimjalla skate park.

With the help of other local skaters, Wright raised enough money to buy the materials to hand paint the watermelon wedge. The project took about 30 participants and 12 hours to complete. The result is a stunning piece of artwork in a slightly overlooked location. The watermelon wedge proved to be an attraction to the park as well -- since the artwork emerged last month, people are constantly stopping to admire and photograph it.

This artistic approach to a public space reveals the artistic ability of young people, while highlighting an act of kindness. This artwork shows the respect that a group of skateboarders have towards their place of refuge.
