The Silent Shout is a sound installation from artists Luciano Foglia and Bas Horsting that goes about sharing sound in an unconventional way. For the project, the two artists assembled small cardboard boxes, and filled them with speakers, a sound chip and enough battery power to last the whole thing about 16 days. From there, artists were asked to create a sound composition that the chip could hold (the same kind that's used to play music and messages inside greeting cards), ranging from a spoken word poem to a dance hit or something even more abstract that's difficult to categorize. After composing, the artists will write an address on the boxes and send them off.
Over the course of the trip, the boxes are not tracked, although they will continue to emit sound as they travel, begging the age-old question: if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make sound?
