The Nude Image Series by Shinichi Maruyama Captures Distorted Subjects

Capturing bodies in movement, the 'Nude' image series by Shinichi Maruyama features distorted figure portraits of both male and female subjects. Each of these striking and creatively conceived images by the Japanese photographer resemble creamy substances that are reminiscent of thick paint or liquid.

Shinichi Maruyama works in collaboration with choreographer Jessica Lang to capture dancers as they leap, stretch and pose mid-movement. Despite of their human subjects, these photographs liquify the human body and capture it at high speed.

Following in the footsteps of famed scientist and photographer Étienne-Jules Marey, Maruyama pushed the boundaries of modern technology and managed to take up to 2000 photos per second. After capturing his images, the artist blended each into an artful composition of abstract photo fragments.
