Sustainable Woolen Furniture

This Furniture Line Uses Sheep Wool to Form a Solid Piece of Material

'Solidwool' is a unique innovation designed by Hannah and Justin Floyd that uses natural sheep wool to create a solid and sustainable composite material.

Similar to fibreglass, the material uses coarse Herdwick sheep wool as reinforcement that is then binded together with natural bio-resins. The end result is an attractive material that almost resembles black marble in appearance that the design duo uses for their own line of furniture. The two designers have also collaborated with other companies for additional projects using the 'Solidwool' material including a pair of sunglasses and a set of kitchen knife handles.

The Herdwick wool material was chosen for both its coarse nature and because the material in recent years had dramatically lost its market value. The designers wished to not only utilize the seemingly worthless material, but also breathe new life into the local English wool industry.
