Helpful Sensory Playground Designs

Children with Autism Assist Matt + Fiona in This Project

Matt + Fiona builds a sensory playground for the Phoenix School in London. The duo consists of architect Matthew Springett and educator Fiona MacDonald. The resulting structure manifests itself as a composition of dark blue triangles.

As the educational institution was changing locations, the sensory playground project was an attempt to "help add continuity during the [...] move." Not only does the structure present a usable space that will ultimately benefit the students, Matt + Fiona requested the help of the children in the development of the sensory playground. Thus, students offered input during their final semester at the school's old location and help build the structure in the first semester at the new site. This project creates subtle fluidity that will ultimately allow for the children to feel comfortable.
