Biodegradable Cheese Packagings

Nestlé Joins Oglivy Colombia on the Self-Packing Cheese

Nestlé Central America works in collaboration with Oglivy Colombia to create the new Self-Packing Cheese which uses biodegradable packaging. The wrapper is entirely made from cheese whey and a new bioplastic -- this is meant to decompose in 300 days. This was developed together as it offers a more sustainable approach to traditional plastic film on its "¡Qué Rico!" cheese brand.

The new packaging blends PHA, which is polyhydroxyalkanoate with whey. Conventional plastic takes up to 900 years to degrade and can be extremely harmful for the environment. The new concept offers a more eco-friendly solution by quite literally being a part of the actual product itself. It has a clear and lightweight feel and can extend to its other products.
