Post-Apocalyptic Romanticism

Social Commentary Street Art from Boxi

I love the artwork of English street artist BOXI. He creates most of his artwork using layer upon layer of life-sized stencils in grayscale. The artist, who is residing in Berlin with his family, describes his work as "post-apocalyptic gray romanticism."

I think it is brilliantly reflective of the art/crime involved in street art culture itself. Boxi uses a lot of humor in his portrayals of the council’s cleaners.

Whether his artwork appears on public walls or in a gallery, you can tell a lot of thought goes into Boxi’s placement of his figures so they interact best with the surroundings and work as a commentary to the backdrop.

In the gallery above is a view of some of BOXI’s indoor and urban artwork.
