Urban Snow Playgrounds

The Second Hinterlands Project Utilizes Wasted Snow in a Fun Way

Snow is possibly the most problematic form of precipitation for urban cities, but the Second Hinterlands project hopes to inject a little fun into such expensive and time-consuming removal programs. Instead of dumping the snow in no man's land, the Second Hinterlands project wants to turn the wasted substance into a winter wonderland smack dab in the cities it was cleared out of.

Conceived by Chicago-based designers Natalya Egon and Noel Turgeon, the Second Hinterlands project would center around a designated area where the snow trucks will dump their cargo. From there, local and visiting passersby will be invited to do with it whatever they will giant forts and mountains or having epic snow fights. As Psfk puts it, the Second Hinterlands "project proposes to change how the city treats winter storms. It also not only helps the city save on energy and resources, but it also creates something fun for the community."
