This Seaside Canopy Blocks Waves During Storms

This seaside canopy has been conceptualized as an idea of what could be done to enhance shoreline communities and provide protection in the event of inclement weather.

The canopy works by offering protection from the sun and rain when in the upright position, which will make it ideal for beachgoers to enjoy on a daily basis. The system can be set to angle downwards when a storm rolls in to help block potentially deadly waves from affecting the community.

The seaside canopy is the conceptual design work of Prof. Maria Garlock, Assoc. Prof. Branko Glišić and PhD student Shengzhe Wang of Princeton University. The installation identifies what could be done to help seaside communities stay better equipped for storms.
