Se Yoon Park's 'Light, Darkness, and the Tree' Uses Digital Crafting

Korean artist Se Yoon Park was an architect before moving into the art world, and he makes use of his architectural know-how in 'Light, Darkness, and the Tree.' The sculptures incorporate dynamic lighting and technologically cutting edge fabrication techniques to make statements about light and darkness in life.

For the series of sculptures, Se Yoon Park uses a plethora of materials, including wood, steel, and polyurethane for the structure and ceramic and polyamide for the lighting. The materials are all shaped and combined through the use of digital fabrication, a technique that Se Yoon Park learned in his years as an architect. During that time, Park worked for firms that include OMA, BIG, FR-EE, and REX -- some of the juggernauts of the industry.
