Towered Scholarly Hubs

The University of Chicago Campus Redesign Opts for Structured Spires

Design firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro recently proposed a new aesthetic for the University of Chicago with a series of interconnected spire scholarly hubs. The buildings are engineered to be incredibly tall and statuesque in hight to house over 90,000-square feet of space designed exclusively for learning.

The hubs will offer collaborative space for teaching, working as well as events and meetings. The building will feature a two-storey unit topped with a large tower created from stacked asymmetrical units. Together the units will form the spire, while offering segmented space for different functionalities. The building will house university lecture halls, presentation rooms as well as viewing tower from the spire's highest point. In addition, the tower will act as a meeting space for guests visiting the campus.
