The Villa Kerckebosch Mimics Its Surroundings With Astounding Clarity

Amsterdam-based firm Engel Architecten designed the 'Villa Kerckebosch,' a scenic home located in the small town of Zeist in The Netherlands.

The architects endeavored to make the house blend in with its surroundings, choosing colors and materials that reflect the wooded environment, populated mostly by pine, beech and American oak trees, as well as the neighboring moorland. The neutral brickwork corresponds to the shades of the trees in the forest, while the contrasting window panes are more in reference to the sandy moor.

The architects also paid special attention to the home's angles, opting for strong vertical and horizontal lines that mimic the shapes of the trees; both in the vertical trunks and horizontally-lined branches and lush treetops.
