Sardine Can Art

Nathalie Alony Creates Miniature Scenes Through Sardine Can Art

Artist and sculptor Nathalie Alony creates sardine can art with the fishy cans and plasticine figurines. Essentially, her unconventional artworks are miniature scenes of everyday apartment and condo life.

The diorama-like scenes are part of a series called 'The Sardinas.' The series depicts tiny people going about their lives in "lonely apartments," "family condos" and "downtown apartments." Using figures, fabric and color, Alony showcases simplistic everyday activities like attending to a child, working on a computer, watching a movie and eating dinner. She even depicts more intimate everyday activities like going to the bathroom, smoking marijuana and having sex.

Though they are only 6 x 10 inch boxes, which once housed salty fish, the cans truly capture life's realities and the things that go on in our homes.
