Product Design Center is the design team behind a new set of sanitary subway straps exclusively for the Sagami Railway that help to eliminate unwanted touching and the spreading of germs for a smarter commute. The straps take inspiration from gymnastic handles with a series of elliptical hoops that improve grip and stability for more standing passengers.
The handles are specially designed to accommodate a wide number of commuters during rush hour contexts by providing functionality to up to three people at a time. The straps consist with a ring connected to a metal pole that allows multiple people to grip the strap simultaneously without coming in contact with one another. The design ensures more people on a transit system can hold on securely while standing.
