Informal Rural Residences

The Hog Pen Creek Residence Features a Relaxed Internal Program

Lake|Flato Architects designed the 'Hog Pen Creek Residence,' a rural residence located along the junction of Hog Pen Creek and Lake Austin in Austin, Texas.

The designers took into consideration the three mature oak trees that surround the property when building, resulting in the home's L-Shaped configuration. To adhere to the client's wish of a home with outdoor interaction, the designers included several covered porches and walkways. A stair-stepping boardwalk allows the main living area to closely engage with the outdoors without compromising the trees.

The living area is flanked by bedroom lofts and porches on either side. A barn-like door separates the bedrooms from the living area below, allowing inhabitants the option of opening their private space to the social area.
