Sloped Rooftop Garden Designs

Steven Holl Architects' Museum Incorporates a Space for Relaxation

Rooftop garden designs are a way to incorporate a natural and immersive setting within the busy urban narrative. New York-based firm Steven Holl Architects was tasked to create an art school at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. The practice utilizes concrete and glass for the format of an abstract structure that captures attention by way of its curious facade.

The museum's "facilities are arranged in an L-shape to wrap a central sculpture garden designed by landscape design firm Deborah Nevins & Associates." The green roof slopes down, forming a walkable ramp on the building's longitude. Although a place of education in art and culture, the Museum of Fine Arts embraces a relaxing space for its staff, students and the public.
