Individually Designed Retirement Homes

This Residence is Designed to Avoid Rows of Identical Rooms

This beautiful retirement home was designed by the Belgian studio Areal Architecten. When we think of retirement homes, often times we imagine row after row of identical rooms. Instead of this cookie-cutter approach, the designers plotted the home around a pair of courtyards to avoid creating identical rooms. The designers wanted the home to be, "a place to grow old with dignity."

The retirement home is called Mayerhof Care Campus and it accommodates 148 residents. The home is a three-story complex that is roughly shaped after a figure of eight. The design studio said, "each room gets either a view towards these open spaces in the heart of the nursing home or to the green area around the building."
