Castle Arch Lighting Installations

'Reframe' Replaces Ruined Arches with Hanging Lights

'Reframe,' an art and design piece by Romanian architects Alexandru Fleseriu and Peter Eszter, is a modernization of the architecture and lighting of a historic place.

Within Romania lies the region of Transylvania, best known in pop culture as Dracula's domain, and the real-world Transylvania is truly filled with many old and decaying castles. Working in one of these former marvels, the architects chose to light the space by making reference to its historic forms.

The most notable aspect of the design is the series of floating light arches. These faux-arches are hung from the ceiling in exactly the places where the castle originally had arches, though the stone thresholds have since crumbled. The installation also includes an LED-filled halo that references the candled chandeliers of Renaissance castles.
