This 16-year-old girl named Shania McDonagh won the annual Texaco Children's Art Competition in Ireland with her hyper-realistic pencil portrait of an old man was the winner. She named the piece "Coleman." The realistic pencil portrait is from a photograph that she found in the Vanishing Ireland book.
It took the talented young lady about a month to create the masterpiece. She won the top prize, which was $2,075 (€1,500). She won out of the 16-18-year-old category, as well as the whole 2014 competition. Prof Declan McGonagle is the judging panel's chairman and director of the National College of Art and Design and he said that the girl's work has positioned her "as one of the most talented artists of her generation, and one whose skill could see her become one of Ireland’s foremost portrait artists of the future."
