Bill Fitzgibbons' 'LightRails' Emulates a Rainbow with LED Lights

Bill FitzGibbons' rainbow light installation entitled 'LightRails' is a gorgeous art piece that turns an ordinary tunnel into a rainbow. The installation is set up on the underpass at 18th Street in Birmingham, Alabama. This permanent installation is meant to introduce this talented American artist to the local community and draw people to this intriguing new art piece in the city.

FitzGibbons used the existing columns beneath the underpass as the foundation for this installation, completely transforming the appearance of the plain concrete using only light. The installation uses over 250 individually programmable LED lights to mimic the full spectrum of a rainbow's colors. The experience of walking though this underpass is like being able to pass through each colored beam of a rainbow.
