This German Kindergarten is Built on Top of a Former Railway Land

Local German architecture and design studio Behnisch Architekten has unveiled plans for the construction of a day care center located in the city of Heidelberg in Germany on top of a former railway land. The structure will be built in the newest city district of Bahnstadt in a public space called Schwetzinger Terrasse.

The exterior is completely layered in strips of timber and envelops itself around the children’s playground area. "The large outdoor area was designed to be perceived as a protective belt surrounding the building," says the architects of Behnisch Architekten.

Inside the two story structure, classrooms can be found in the entire structure, with the upper floors consisting of a science room, a music room, a workshop, a reading room and open areas. There is also a garden that is connected through the walkway on the second floor.
