Racing in Puffy Suits

The Aeolian Ride

These bikers are part of a wacky event called the Aeolian Ride.

Organized by Jessica Findley, 52 riders are decked out in handmade, white, rip-stop nylon suits in three different shapes. The suits are designed to inflate when the riders travel at normal speed.

As the group’s web site defines it, "Aeolian: Relating to or caused by wind +Ride: To be carried or conveyed, to travel over a surface."

Personally, I like the one that looks like bee wings the best. I hope they are weighted down with something so they’re not carried away in a big gust. The ride looks extra special in the night with the puffed up jackets glowing like strange ghosts in the dark.

The ride is just for the fun of biking and silliness says Findley, and not for profit. The ride has taken place in many cities such as New York, San Francisco, Halifax, Cape Town, LA and Melbourne. Contact Jessica to have the ride come to your city.
