Socially Focused City Infrastructures

T Sakhi's Urban Project Promotes Public Spaces in Beirut

Multidisciplinary studio T Sakhi harnesses its expertise in design and architecture to deliver accessible public spaces in Beirut through revamping "unfinished construction projects and [scattered] security infrastructure." The project revists urban topography by openly referencing the instability of the current political climate and stimulating social engagement in creative ways.

T Sakhi's project realizes "two interventions" of public spaces in Beirut. The first one is titled 'Lost in Translation' and it boasts several seats that are connected by an arch that is climbable but can serve as a reading rack as well. The positioning of the chairs allows for a modular experience and promotes face-to-face interaction. The second space is named 'Holidays in the Sun' and it offers people a sculptural place to sit but also "introduce greenery into parts of the city where it is lacking."
