Spotmaps Create Pixelated Movie Posters From a Different Perspective

At first glance, you may look at these prints and think that you are looking at a pixelated movie poster when in fact, what you are really seeing is a color blueprint for movies.

Spotmaps is based on Brendan Dawes’ Cinema Redux and is an ongoing project by Andy Willis, which is dedicated to mapping the color footprints of different films. In laymen’s terms, what this means is that each square you see represents the average color from one second of the movie and each row represents a whole minute. If you take a peak at the website, there are 296 blueprints of movies already made and many more that still need to be created.

You probably wouldn’t know it from simply looking at it, but movies such as Winter’s Bone and the Tree of Life are depicted in these pixelated movie posters, which create both a mystifying and intriguing tone.
