Jacob Douenias and Ethan Frier designed a new line of photosynthetic furnishings that use unique biotechnology to produce heat and light. The algae-based fixtures demonstrate one of the more naturals ways to illuminate and warm your home using only organic matter.

The collection features a number of stunning glass vessels, each filled with alkaline water and cyanobacteria. The cyanobacteria is a versatile form of algae that can thrive in all kinds of environments, making it an ideal form of biotechnology for sustainable home furnishings. The algae has unique culinary qualities and light absorbency properties that allow it to conduct heat and to give off a rich green shade of light.

Currently the photosynthetic furnishings are on display in a commissioned series that shows off the ways in which homes can be furnished with living fixtures. While each of the prices are simply artistic prototypes at this point, they do indicate some of the ways in which organic matter may be used in our homes in the near future.
