Eindhoven-based Studio Atùppertù designed the Perspectives mirrors for the Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo (MAXXI). The defining feature of the mirrors are the way in which they use two reflective surfaces to ricochet light back and forth, creating visually arresting patterns.
Designer Gionata Gatto created two designs, each encompassing different mirrored elements, to frame the light bulbs and their oscillating glow. Each design uses a brass and stainless steel structure to affix the LED light between a layer of reflective glass and a sheet of one-way mirror.
The tinted one-way mirrors become partially transparent when the lights are turned on, ultimately reflecting the light of the bulb onto the surfaces. Gatto explains, "I thought that the light, bouncing between the different materials would produce an interesting combination of reflection effects, possibly amplified by the slightly yellowish shade of the one-way mirrors."
