Snøhetta Expands the Ordrupgaard Art Museum Underground

The Ordrupgaard Art Museum underwent a subterranean expansion under the creative eye of the Snøhetta architectural firm. Home to world-class Danish and French art, the museum's new space includes five new underground exhibitions. Its extension is near Jægersborg Dyrehave, Copenhagen, creating a holistic route through its estate.

The new addition connects a previous expansion wing by the late master designer Zaha Hadid. Three of the five exhibition spaces are dedicated to the museum's assembly of French impressionist paintings. The two other zones link the existing exhibition spaces together. Made with bold steel-skinned structures, the metal exterior is contrasted with a soft and organic interior. The ceilings are wrapped in oak veneer cassettes to create a sense of warmth.
