Operation Polar Cops Aims to Improve Relations with the Police

The St. Louis Police Department in Missouri recently launched an initiative called 'Operation Polar Cops' that aims to improve the relationship between local communities and the police in a unique way.

Operation Polar Cops is an initiative that involves police officers handing out free ice cream to people across the city of St. Louis. In order to give out as much free ice cream as possible, the city purchased a special ice cream truck using donations made to the force. The company Prairie Farms Dairy has also teamed up with the police to provide approximately 6,000 complimentary ice cream treats.

While the initiative is meant to improve community relations on a larger scale, the free ice cream is also intended to help the force specifically connect to the youth. As Police Commissioner Sam Dotson explains, "Operation Polar Cops is a unique tool to reach our youngest citizens. The goal of this project is simple. It’s about introducing our officers as positive role models in a fun environment."
