This Saudi Opera Complex is Inspired By Traditional Mud Brick Construction

The 'Royal Diriyah Opera House' is an innovatively designed and highly aesthetically pleasing opera venue, situated in Saudi Arabia, whose appearance is inspired by mud brick buildings that are ubiquitous in the country and which helps provide a cool environment.

Led by Norwegian architectural firm Snohetta, this opera venue project will offer an interior space in the region of 46,000 square meters which will revolve around a primary 2,000-seat opera theater, while two other theaters with less seat capacity will also be available for other events and performances.

Snohetta states that the concept for this opera venue is inspired by the shapes that form when earthen material from riverbeds are cracked and changed by the weather elements. "This idea formed the cluster of buildings, which appears to be rising from the ground with open passages throughout," Snohetta stated in a press release.
