Curvaceous Opera House Designs

wHY Architecture Plans a New Cultural Development in Perm, Russia

American studio wHY Architecture has revealed renderings of a curvaceous opera house design for Perm, Russia. The development is planned to be brought to the bank of the Kama River, near the Ural mountains, making for a quaint setting.

Titled 'Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre,' the opera house design answers to contemporary sensibilities with sinuous glazed portion, accented by wood and copper-colored elements. The layout of the interior is connected through a series of ramps and walkways that will lead guests to different theaters. Moreover, wHY Architecture creates a link to the outside, as well. The flowing shape of the building's silhouette is also not without meaning. The gentle curves are intended to "invoke the flowing movement of the dancers who will perform there."
