360-Degree Panoramic Cameras

The Omnidirectional Camera Takes Spherical Shots

Photographers can sometimes struggle with their shots when there's beauty all around them, and that's where Ricoh's Omnidirectional Camera concept can help.

The camera is actually two fish-eye lenses back to back, each of which captures a 180-degree view of the subject. The internal processor will meld both 180 degree angles into one 360 degree shot. The Omnidirectional Camera will then send the image directly to your smartphone via WiFi.

The creative possibilites with a true 360-degree image are pretty fascinating. Ricoh showed what a capture would look like plastered onto a sphere, which opens up a whole world of home decor possibilities. These shots can also be browsed by scrolling, making them much more interactive than the static shots most are used to.

Ricoh's Omnidirectional Camera is still in the concept and design stages.
