Diseño Neko has had a bit of fun with the standard design of outdoor public seating, resulting in a piece of furniture that's no less practical and a great deal more intriguing. The Ola Bench functions as a place to repose, and a unique waterfront sculpture. Inspired by the nautical and industrial history of Fort Point, Boston, this one object ties in its setting's character with art and utility.
Recycled aluminum and powder-coated steel were used to manufacture the fluid platform and its frame. The metal has been manipulated such that it takes gentle waves as separate slats that undulate smoothly together. The gentle curves complement the contours of the sitter's body; reclined backrests encourage people to kick back on the Ola Bench and experience the flow of the city.
