Start-up Brands Connect with Community at NYU Strawberry Festival

The highlight of the annual NYU Strawberry Festival may seem like its massive strawberry shortcake, but the event holds a deeper meaning that makes an impact in its community. This fruit-themed University event is more than just fun and free food; it helps start-up businesses by connecting them to publicity and the community.

The festival features new vendors for giveaways each year. It is a way to get students familiar with new brands, from local mom-and-pop shops to national brands.

2013 marks the festival's 26th year. The event happens in May to commemorate the end of the school year for NYU students. It is a public, outdoor day festival with live bands, games, interactive booths and contests.

"It’s hopefully a good way for students and faculty to unwind right before finals, to celebrate the coming of summer and for the sometimes disparate community to come together," says Tyler Maxin, co-chair of the festival.
Strawberry Festival is sponsored by the Program Board at NYU.
