What Bare Celebs Are Worth

NY Mag Scored Big With Lohan (UPDATE)

(Warning: partial nudity)

The photoshoot in which Lindsay Lohan re-enacted Marilyn Monroe's 1962 shoot "The Last Sitting" was one of the best thing ever to happen to New York Magazine.

Lohan, who got completely naked, got paid NOTHING to do the shoot. On the first day the photos were up, NY Mag's site got 40 million page views. By the second day, JUST Lohan's photos got 34 million more views. Usually, the entire site gets just 1 million views a day, so this was ridiculously good for them. They pulled in $500,000 in those two days, all from the $15 ad banner above the article.

Perhaps moving online is the best thing for magazines, but having the option to have a print edition is great too.

The amount of money this one article had online, not counting any print revenue, from the weekly magazine was immense. That lone page brought in the same amount of money as four full page color ads would n the print edition which would cost advertisers $64,500 each.

As is noticeable even on Trend Hunter, the story continues to bring in scads of traffic. That's the beauty of posting online; it continues to circulate the web, it never hits a recycle bin like most print mags do.

Although New York's print editions now only count for 5% of the publication's revenue, the company still anticipates sales to be way up thanks to Lohan's nude shoot.

"We anticipate a very high sell-through rate and have heard anecdotal evidence of copies flying off shelves," said Lauren Starke, a spokeswoman for the magazine, who also anticipates boosted viewership of the online edition. "We expect the heavy traffic to continue."

Of course, it's also exceptional publicity for the young starlet! This will bring a major boost to her career.
