In the effort to construct a center that is sustainable and functional, Japan-based architecture and design firm Iida Archiship designed the Okinawa Nursing Training Center in Japan for the Okinawa Prefectural Nursing Association. The structure will also serve as a research facility for medical professionals to hone their professional skills and techniques.
The structure features four large roofs made from reinforced concrete roofs that provide shelter. The sheltered space is called the Lounge, where the expansive atrium allows natural sunlight to flow through.
The building also features a Cool Tube that allows the fluid functioning of environmental conditions within the center. Thermal controls are also part of the construction through using ground heat and natural winds that further enhance the building’s sustainability.
