This 2014 New Year's Fireworks Display Incorporated Taste and Smell

A New Year's fireworks display will engage your sense of sight and hearing, but this year, food scientists Bompas & Parr and Vodafone came together to make the experience multi-sensory, engaging taste and smell as well.

The multi-sensory 'Flavour Fireworks' project introduced flavors like peach snow, banana confetti, strawberry smoke and zesty orange, over the Thames River in London. These specific fruits were selected for their cross-cultural properties, so that the scents and tastes would be recognizable to all.

While Bompas & Parr took care of the flavored fireworks display, Vodafone’s involvement in the partnership included an augmented reality app, that was available 24 hours before NYE. For those who couldn’t attend the fireworks display in person, the app came alive at midnight, synchronized with the launching of the fruity fireworks.
