The New Slavija Square Better Organizes the Entanglement of Traffic

Many cities have at least one major problem area that probably requires some dissection and restructuring of its circulation scheme. This concept for a new Slavija Square aims to bring order to the chaos of one Serbian urban intersection.

Adam Vukmanov took up the challenge to isolate different transportation systems in this hectic zone and to devise a layering strategy that would keep pedestrians, cars, buses and trams moving separately. Ground level would be designated for public transit, underground for automobiles and a level on top would become a safe place for people to get around on foot with just the sky above them. To accommodate existing infrastructure, the new Slavija Square gets broader as it rises, even coming to integrate shops and restaurants for the crowds.
