Solutions for Cramped Computing

Netbooks Emerge as PC of Choice for Travelers, Business Users

You might think that a full-sized laptop is the best option to stay connected while you’re on the go, but netbooks are emerging as the computer of choice for travelers and, increasingly, business users. Here’s why a wee PC may be the better choice for your next business trip or vacation, using the Samsung Go as the natural jumping-off point into the market.

Netbooks are relatively inexpensive. With a price tag of under $500, it’s feasible for many users to have a larger laptop or full-sized desktop at home and keep a netbook on deck for travel. For users on a budget, it’s hard to beat the price of a netbook, especially when basic features like the Internet and the ability to run Windows applications are preserved. And for business users, the financial outlay when an employee loses or breaks his or her netbook while on a business trip is significantly diminished compared to the cost of a laptop.

Netbooks are lighter and more portable than their full-sized counterparts. Sure, a 17" laptop is far more travel-friendly than a desktop, but a 10" laptop is more travel-friendly still. This is a gadget that will fit neatly on even cramped economy tray tables—as well as in your tote bag, backpack or large purse. And with a weight well under 4 pounds, something like the Samsung Go (N310) is portable without weighing you down.

Netbooks can be more durable than a laptop. Returning to the Samsung Go, Japanese artist Naoto Fukasawa designed this netbook to look great and last. Its edges are rounded, and it’s covered in a rubbery surface—kind of like a leathery shell—to withstand the bumps, wear and tear of travel. And an antibacterial finish on the keyboard of that netbook ensures that no matter where you are, bacteria won’t follow you home.
