The 'Native Hostel' hopes to change the North American attitude toward hostel accommodations and provide an alternative to the pricey boutique hotels popping up in Austin.
Housed in a former brewery built in the 1890s, Native Hostel is luxuriously decorated while paying homage to its historical roots. Over time, the building became dilapidated, but it was still a sought-after heritage site in Austin. Design firm Un.Box Studio worked to peel back the grubby layers of the building and add a "dark and stormy" atmosphere.
One of the highlights of the Native Hostel is its 'Romper Room.' This is a communal living space that can accommodate between 10 and 20 people with eight bunk beds and a California king bed. According to the hostel, this communal sleeping area is "a space limited solely by our imagination, the Romper Room is a place for free play and privacy." The space features rich, red velvet curtains on the bunk beds for privacy and plush blue velvet sofas for socializing.
By offering fancy accommodations on a budget, the Native Hostel in Austin is reinventing the North American hostel.
