Space-Saving Narrow Homes

This Japanese House Narrowly Fits Between Two Traditional Homes

Japan is known for its unique and culturally specific architecture and this narrow home created by Japanese architect 'Ninkipen!' is no different.

Encased between two more traditional homes, this narrow home is significantly taller than the houses around it to make up for what it lacks in width. The exterior of the house certainly strays from the aesthetic of the rest of the residential area, with a white steel coating and sparsely distributed windows. The interior of this narrow home is modern and minimalist. The ground floor features a storage area and dressing room, while the second floor contains a living and dining room and the third floor features a bedroom with a mezzanine loft.

The home is an excellent example of how space -- or a lack thereof -- can be utilized to the architect's and homeowner's advantage in densely populated areas.
