The Mutation Series by Maarten De Ceulaer is Excitingly Experimental

While the name of this furniture collection might be necessary for some to explain the odd bubbling forms each piece takes on, the Mutation Series is clearly inspired by science, DNA strands and cell particles. Conceived and created by Belgian designer Maarten De Ceulaer, the Mutation Series is inspired by the natural processes of cell mutation.

Although each chair, couch and ottoman in the Mutation Series has been made by hand, the designer teases, "They might be the result of a mutation in cells, or the result of a chemical or nuclear reaction. Perhaps it’s a virus or bacteria that has grown dramatically out of scale." An experimental line to say the least, it does encourage people to look at furniture in a different way.

The Mutation Series is made out of foam spheres that have been coated with a durable rubber or tactile velvet-like finish.
