With the imaginative Musicon contraption, kids can express themselves in a broad assortment of sounds. Kamil Laszuk created this contraption as a graduation project while at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland, basing it on a great deal of research into music and child development.
Built somewhat like a barrel drum, this musical instrument has a large turning cylinder that's covered in buttons. These can be pushed once to protrude and once more to retract. When raised, the pegs knock one or several of the five reconfigurable music-makers that are fastened to the magnetic frame. The Musicon delivers noise from cymbals, a snare drum, a glockenspiel, a mill and a guiro. A set of different gears alters the base rhythm as well.
