The 'Music Project' is an year-round educational class that teaches production to teens from Vince Staples' hometown, Long Beach, California.
Working in partnership with Levi's, the rapper hopes to make it easier for aspiring musicians to enter the industry and have their voice heard. To do this, he started the program out with a songwriting workshop, where he got help from producer Dion "No I.D" Wilson, who taught elements of mixing as well.
The teens in the class were all encouraged to compose a song together, where they were able to learn from one another as they went. In addition, the Music Project's instructors, John Sanders and Leslie Barnes, also aim to "provide more resources outside of the school system to get kids to create more music and experiment with different techniques and sounds."
