Peak-Like Mixed-Use Complexes

Bjarke Ingels Group’s Design Gains Construction Approval in Toronto

This stunning, intricate and green-infested mixed-use complex is designed to slot in the King Street West neighborhood in Toronto. The silhouette — developed by Bjarke Ingels Group, is interesting, experimental and definitely offers visual appeal. The composition is eerily reminiscent of BIG’s and Westbank’s unzipped pavilion collaboration which found a home in the Distillery District of the Canadian city.

The mixed-use complex is aptly named ‘Habitat 2.0.’ The name offered a hint at Bjarke Ingels Group’s inspiration behind the development itself. The firm looked to Canadian-Israeli architect Moshe Safdie who completed the "experimental ‘Habitat 67’ housing in Montreal." BIG’s version spans 613,543 square feet and boasts a wave-like roof, five peaks, and an intimately interconnected floor plan.
