German artist Thomas Schütte made a contribution to the architectural presence of the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein with a miniature log cabin. Aside from its hexagonal compact appearance, the structure strikes the fancy of passers-by with its sculpturally inspired roof. The tiny building is realized through the utilization of "untreated logs of Nordic pine" and shingled plywood.
The miniature log cabin is based on a small architectural model that was part of Thomas Schütte's exhibition at the Konrad Fischer gallery. The arty concept was spotted by Rolf Fehlbaum — Vitra's chairman emeritus. With a keen eye for artistic merit, the representative inquired about the possibility of making the design a full-scale structure.
Although there is not a set use for the miniature log cabin yet, Thomas Schütte's work will definitely embellish the campus.
