Virtual Middle Earth Maps

This Chrome Experiment Brings the Middle Earth Map to Life

For fans of The Lord of the Rings, actually travelling to New Zealand to spot some of the locations that were used during filming is a dream, but this Middle Earth map helps LOTR fans to become immersed in the Tolkien world, without having to leave their rooms.

To celebrate the December 13th release of the second part of The Hobbit series, 'The Desolation of Smaug,' Warner Bros. joined forces with Google for a Chrome Experiment that produced a virtual Middle Earth map that's just like Google Earth, but for Elves, Dwarves and of course, Hobbits.

LOTR fans will love being able to scroll through the Tolkien universe to learn more about their favorite characters and see their favorite kingdoms from a new perspective. For more exploring, users can even check out places like Rivendell, Trollshaw Forrest and Dol Guldur in the first person using their keyboard and mouse. If it's been a while since you've seen any of The Lord of the Rings films, or even just the last instalment of the Hobbit, this Middle Earth map is worth checking out.
